SpikeKey was ranked sixth entering the tournament, and we defeated the top three seeds to earn the first place finish. It wasn’t an easy road; we finished 2-1 on Saturday and qualified for Sunday match play. We won four consecutive matches, all of which went to three games, and were decided by just two points.

In the finals we played Cindy Philips and Iwona Lodzik, the number one and undefeated seed, and the team who dealt us our loss on Saturday. The format of the tournament resulted in double final, and SpikeKey had to defeat them twice to take home the victory. It was an amazing day of volleyball, which saw us gain confidence in our play throughout the matches, eventually resulting in victory. We are very thankful that our coach, Bob Parker, was there to share the win.

SpikeKey Qualifies for the AVP (June 14-15)

SpikeKey’s next stop…California! With no time to celebrate our past win, we arrived in Los Angeles the following Friday night and headed to South Long Beach to compete in the AVP (Association of Volleyball Professionals) qualifier. The AVP tour stops at many big cities around the United States, showcasing the top players in the country. The qualifier tournaments are highly competitive with no room for error. Typically teams need to win four rounds, or eight games, to qualify for the main draw.

SpikeKey was seeded 38th out of 40 teams, and finished the qualifier in the top seven, earning bids to compete in the Boulder, Colorado and Brooklyn, New York AVP tournaments. SpikeKey was one of two teams representing Florida and the only non-California team to qualify at the event for the next two AVP tournaments.

All of the fans and athletes were very friendly, and the fans greeted us with welcoming smiles after we handed out DenTek product sample bags. We finished Saturday with a record of 4-1, qualifying us for Sunday play. We competed against a well known and highly respected team, defeating them in a grueling three game match. We lost our second Sunday match in an extremely close game. The weekend was a huge success, allowing us to visit a beautiful beach, qualify for the AVP, and win some money!

SpikeKey Takes First Place in Clearwater Tournament (June 21-22)

SpikeKey strikes again, this time in Florida. SpikeKey won the SSOV professional beach tournament this past weekend. Despite the rainy weather SpikeKey went undefeated and captured first place.
