Lights Camera Action…(August 2-3, Long Beach , New York )
When people think of New York, they think of Times Square, the theatre, and the constant hustle and bustle of the city. I was unaware of the beautiful sandy beaches of Long Island until this year. We have had the opportunity to compete in two East End volleyball tournaments on the East coast. Spikekey joined twenty other teams all competing for a Dominican Republic trip and of course prize money. We went undefeated on Saturday with a record of 4-0, qualifying us for Sunday play in which we advanced to the finals after defeating a pair of twins from Venezuela. The tour crew quickly prepared center court for the finals, which was broadcasted through out the East coast and can also be viewed on our news section on spikekey.com. We lost in the finals after a long and competitive match. Toyota Tour comes to a close in Virginia Beach (August 15-17, Virginia Beach) The Toyota Pro Beach East Volleyball Tour wrapped up the 2008 season in Virginia Beach. The competition was one of the strongest in Pro Beach East’s history. Top professional players from across the U.S. and Brazil participated in the tournament. Our first victory was against AVP main draw regulars while our second match was against the Ocean city first place winners which resulted in a very close match. Our loss bumped us to the contender’s bracket, where we faced a familiar team from Florida. In the contenders bracket the format consists of one quick game to 25; however, our twenty-five point game was one the longest considering we played long into nightfall. We played a solid game but fell shy by just a few points. We took home fourth from the tournament. The Toyota Tour and Corona committee hosted a wonderful player’s party as the season came to a close. In 2009, the Toyota Tour is looking to make a stop in Florida! We will keep everyone posted about the 2009 schedule. The Motherlode Tournament (August 28-1 September, Aspen)
SpikeKey returns once again to Colorado, but instead of competing at an elevation of 5,430 at Folsom Field Stadium in Boulder we made our way through the windy roads and breath taking views and ended in the beautiful quaint town of Aspen, with an elevation of 7,908. Every year Aspen is consistently rated one of the world's top ski areas, but after experiencing both seasons I would have to say that summer and fall are just as magical as the winter flakes. I am sure most of you are wondering “volleyball in Aspen”…that’s what we thought. After hearing our friends rant and rave about the MotherLode Volleyball tournament we had to check it out for ourselves. The Motherlode is going on its 36th year and has been voted the number one Pro-Am Event in North America. The open division, also known as the professional division, had over thirty-five well-known, talented teams. We played against teams from Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, and of course California. Our record was five wins and two losses. We had an excellent tournament and although we placed fourth, this was the strongest we’ve played all season. The two matches we lost went to went three games and lost by only a few exciting points. The two teams that knocked us into fourth place finished first and second respectively. We highly anticipate playing in The Motherlode again next year! SPONSOR OPPORTUNITY at the Siesta Key Beach (October 18th) SpikeKey is offering a unique advertising opportunity to local businesses.
