Dreams really do come true…

Not matter where we travel: the famous sandy beaches of California, the foothills of Colorado, the beautiful city of Chicago, the bright lights of New York, the friendly boardwalks of Maryland, and of course our home in sunny Florida, we embrace every city, appreciate our surroundings, and give thanks for the opportunity to chase our dream. This month has been nothing short of a fairytale.

We would like to thank our family, friends, and sponsors for their continued support. We feel very fortunate for all the press we have received, highlighting our successful 2008 season thus far. Make sure to check out the News Section on www.SpikeKey.com to view press releases, photos and up to date news.

SpikeKey Plays the Number #1 Team in the World (July 4-6)

Nine months ago we never imagined we would be face to face with the number one beach volleyball team in the world, Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh. We felt honored to be matched against not only the number one team in the world, but the team that is favored to bring home yet another gold medal in the Beijing Olympics. Stepping onto center court hearing our names paired with Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh is something that will live with us forever. A child hood dream made a reality at Folsom Field, the University of Colorado football stadium.

Though we lost the match, it was not only the athletic talent that struck us as unbelievable, but their humble demeanor and gracious attitude. Misty and Kerri can add our match to their flawless record as we will embrace this match as one to always be remembered.

SpikeKey Only Florida team to Qualify for Chicago AVP (July 11-13)

Coming off a very inspiring match in Boulder, the momentum was behind us as we competed in the Chicago AVP qualifier. The venue centered in downtown Chicago was a crowd pleaser. We won all of our matches on Thursday, qualifying us to compete in the main draw on Friday. We had two very competitive games on Friday against teams ranked in the top five of the tour. Although we lost, we’re still improving and are very confidant that SpikeKey will be one of the next top teams in the nation. Every weekend we spend together as a team we gain confidence and experience leading us to the next level of competitive play.

FLORIDA TEAM MAKES PAPER IN BROOKLYN, NEW YORK (July 17-19)

We had the opportunity to be featured on center court again with Kerri Walsh and Misty May -Treanor. It was quite comical as we had the same refs in Boulder, and it’s highly unusual to play the number one team in the same season twice. Both teams shared a few laughs before the game about traveling and of course getting lost on the subway. The venue was in the heart of Coney Island where beach goers, cyclists and bus loads of students were part of the action. Though we didn’t capture the win, we are very proud in the way we played. The tournament director commented on our performance and said “We are the only team from Florida to compete and qualify for the AVP tournaments on a consistent basis and would like to write a feature story on SpikeKey, the Florida team.”

SpikeKey TAKES PLACE 2ND PLACE IN LONG BEACH, NY (July 19)

We had the opportunity to compete in an East End volleyball tournament while we were in New York. Richard Helies, director and owner of the tour, travels around the U.S. coordinating professional beach volleyball tournaments. This was our first East End tournament on the East coast, but won’t be our last. We will be competing in the New York, Dominican Republic qualifier on August 2nd. The finals will be filmed and televised in NY and online.

LONG BEACH, CALIFORNIA- HERE WE COME (July 25-27)

On the road again, back to Long Beach, California where we first qualified for the AVP Tour. At this particular AVP event the team cap was 20, leaving room for 4 teams to qualify and compete in Friday’s action. We captured our first victory against an internationally experienced team. Our third round match was a long intense game filled with amazing plays, emotional rallies and of course a tiebreaker game, game three. We just missed the mark to qualify, however we earned points which increases our rank and seedings for future tournaments.

SpikeKey TAKES 2ND PLACE IN OCEAN CITY, MARYLAND (July 26-27)

If you love the ocean, pure sand, non stop entertainment, and appreciate natural beauty, then we suggest a visit to Ocean City, Maryland. We were very excited about competing in the third stop of the Toyota Tour in Ocean City. After our past success on the tour we were anxious for the next stop. We contribute our momentum and kick off to a great season from the Inaugural event held in Dewey Beach. This past weekend we played 12 games leading us into the finals were we lost in three games. The tournament was a good opportunity to play great teams in a very competitive atmosphere. This premier tour not only hosted a well-organized tournament, but provided first class accommodations for all athletes. The fans were incredible, they really got into the matches, and even stayed and cheered when it started raining. If you are a volleyball fan, Corona drinker or would like the chance to win a free Toyota, please join us at the next event in Virginia Beach on August 16th, 2008.
